Mandaotry Orientation
***If you want to add this class, you must come to the orientation!!
- Date: Thurs. Feb 9 (5:30-7:30 PM)
- Room: K5-104 (new math lab)
- This orientation is mandatory. If you miss, you will be dropped!! (No exception)

Textbook:
Intermediate Algebra, by Bittinger, Ellenborgen, Johnson
- You must ask the cashier at the bookstore "Online Math 125 textbook". Online textbook comes in a bundle with an access code.
- If you already have a used book, you need to purchase the access code online.
- Prerequisite: Beginning Algebra (M115) or Equivalent
- Chapters covered: ch7-13 (may omit some secitons)
In-Campus Miterm & Final Exam Schedule
- midterm 1 (Thursday, March 15, 5-7 PM at A-13): covers ch 7,8,9
- midterm 2 (Thursday, April 26, 5-7 PM at A-13): covers ch 10,11
- midterm 3 (Thursday, May 24, 5-7 PM at A-13): covers ch 12,13
- final (Thursday, May 31, 5-7 PM at A-13): covers ch 7-13
Each midterm counts 10% and the final counts 20% of the total grade.
No make up exams.

Midterm exams will come from the following chapter tests.
You can send me an email if you need help on these questions. But you must try first!
Online Chapter Tests: There will a total of seven online chapter tests (one for each chapter)

- You will take the Online Chapter Tests by logging into the "COURSECOMPASS".
- You can take each Chapter Test twice before its due date. Each time you have 90 minutes to complete.
- The better score will be used for grading.
- No make up test will be given.
- Chapter Test counts 30% of the total grade.

- Online homework is due every Sunday and Thursday.
- You will take the homework assignment by logging into the "COURSECOMPASS".
- You can take each homework assignment as many times as you need before it is due.
- The best score will be kept for grading.
- Each homework assignment has its due date by 11PM. After due date, You can not access the homework.
- homework counts 20% of the total grade.
How to Take the online homework assignmnet?

- Before you take the homework assingment, you must first register with COURSECOMPASS.
- After the registration, you login to COURSECOMPASS everytime you take the quiz.

How to Register?
- Before you go online to register, please make sure that you have the following items:
- Valid email address
- Course ID for this course: It is "Lee96462".
- CousseCompass Student AccessCode (This comes with your textbook.)
- Go to http://coursecompass.com/
- Bookmark this site for easy access. (Add this to your favorite.)
- Click Register under Students.
- Enter your AccessCode, Course ID is Lee96462, Zip Code for ELAC is 91754.
- If you do not have an AccessCode and wish to purchase online,
- Enter your contact info. Make sure that your email address is VALID!!
- Enter 91754 for the zip code. Enter your academic institution (East Los Angeles College).
- Enter your login name and password. Please do not loose them since I can not retrieve them.
- Print the Confirmation & Summary page for future reference.
- Now you are ready to "login to Course Compass".

Now you need to install several programs to take the online homework assignment.
- Log in to coursecompass using the login name and password you created.
- You will see the couse M125(Spring 2012). Click the course.
- You will see the Announcement page.
- In the Announcement page, click MyMathLab Installation Wizard.
- You need to install several programs including InterAct Math Plug-in, TestGen Plug-in, Adobe Acrobat Reader(if you did not install it yet), RealOne Player, and Macromedia Flash Player.
- You must complete the installation procedure, otherwise, you may not be able to see the homework questions.
- If you have trouble installing, don't contact me but contact the Tech Support line: 1-800-677-6337 CST (8am - 5pm. Mon-Fri).

How to Take the online homework assignment?
- Go to http://coursecompass.com/
- Click Login.
- Enter your Login name and Password.
- Click the course: M125(Spring 2012)
- Clcik DO HOMEWORK tap on left column.
- You will see the entire homework assignment listed with due dates. Click the section of your choice.
- Click GRADEBOOK to see the homework result. Only the best score will be kept.
Communication:
You can email me directly to michaellee3000@hotmail.com or email me through COURSECOMPASS. Following is the instruction. In any case, you need a valid email address. You may call me but it will take longer for me to respond.
- You can only send a email through COURSECOMPASS.
- After login to your class, click Communications on the left tab, and clcik Send E-mail.
- click All Users or Select Users(Lee, Michael).
- Type the subject and message.
- Click send.
Grading:
- Three on-campus exams....30% (10% each)
- Final on-campus exam.....20%
- Seven online chapter tests.....30%
- Online Homework assignment......20%
Grade: A (90-100%), B (80-89%), C (70-79%), D (60-69%), F (0-59%)
How to compute a Grade?
- Suppose you have 70, 80, and 90 on three midterm exams. Then (70+80+90)/300 * 30=24%
- Suppose you have 80 on the final. Then (80/100)*20=16%
- Suppose you have average of 75% on online chapter tests. Then 0.75*30=22.5%
- Suppose you have 80% on the online homework assignment. Then 0.8*20=16
- Your total is 24+16+22.5+16=78.5%, which is C.
